چکیده

Received Jan 15, 2017 Revised Apr 15, 2017 Accepted Apr 29, 2017 An improved Augmented Line Segment Based (ALSB) algorithm for the construction of Rectilinear Steiner Minimum Tree using augmented line segments is proposed. The proposed algorithm works by incrementally increasing the length of line segments drawn from all the points in four directions. The edges are incrementally added to the tree when two line segments intersect. The reduction in cost is obtained by postponing the addition of the edge into the tree when both the edges (upper and lower Lshaped layouts) are of same length or there is no overlap. The improvement is focused on reduction of the cost of the tree and the number of times the line segments are augmented. Instead of increasing the length of line segments by 1, the line segments length are doubled each time until they cross the intersection point between them. The proposed algorithm reduces the wire length and produces good reduction in the number of times the line segments are incremented. Rectilinear Steiner Minimum Tree has the main application in the global routing phase of VLSI design. The proposed improved ALSB algorithm efficiently constructs RSMT for the set of circuits in IBM benchmark. Keyword:

Rectilinear Full Steiner Tree Generation Rectilinear Full Steiner Tree Generation

The fastest exact algorithm (in practice) for the rectilinear Steiner tree problem in the plane uses a two-phase scheme: First a small but suucient set of full Steiner trees (FSTs) is generated and then a Steiner minimum tree is constructed from this set by using simple backtrack search, dynamic programming or an integer programming formulation. FST generation methods can be seen as problem red...

Performance Analysis of the Algorithms for the Construction of Rectilinear Steiner Minimum Tree

The advances in VLSI technology have led to complex and larger circuits. As the circuits become complex and large, the amount of time required for the design of such circuits increases. The people in the VLSI industry are looking for faster EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools so as to reduce the design time. Routing is a phase in the design (physical design) of electronic circuits, wherein...

New algorithms for the rectilinear Steiner tree problem

We discuss a new approach to constructing the rectilinear Steiner tree (RST) of a given set of points in the plane, starting from a minimum spanning tree (MST). The main idea in our approach is to find layouts for the edges of the MST, so as to maximize the overlaps between the layouts, thus minimizing, the cost (i.e., wire length) of the resulting rectilinear Steiner tree. We describe two algor...

An edge-based heuristic for Steiner routing

A new approximation heuristic for finding a rectilinear Steiner tree of a set of nodes is presented. It starts with a rectilinear minimum spanning tree of the nodes and repeatedly connects a node to the nearest point on the rectangular layout of an edge, removing the longest edge of the loop thus formed. A simple implementation of the heuristic using conventional data structures is compared wit...

Obstacle-Avoiding Rectilinear Minimum-Delay Steiner Tree Construction towards IP-Block-Based SOC Design

With System-on-Chip design, IP blocks form routing obstacles that deteriorate global interconnect delay. In this paper, we present a new approach for obstacle-avoiding rectilinear minimal delay Steiner tree (OARMDST) construction. We formalize the solving of minimum delay tree through the concept of an extended minimization function, and trade the objective into a top-down recursion, which wise...
